📦 Download KappaPT Shaders
The KappaPT Shaders are a path-traced Minecraft shaderpack. Visually, it is very similar to its little brother, the regular Kappa Shaders.
Path traced
As pointed out, the most significant change when going from normal Kappa Shaders to its PT version is the way the shaders work. Instead of using standard global illumination for shading, the PT version uses path tracing.
Path tracing means light is traced and manipulated in such a way that it more closely resembles the way light works in the real world. This feature is not unique to this shaderpack, as there are quite a few other path-traced shaders out there. To name a few: SEUS PTGI, ApolloRT and NostalgiaVX are great examples of shaders that use the same shading techniques.
Still very Kappa
Despite the huge impact of path tracing on both realism and sadly also performance, this shaderpack looks just like its non path-traced counterpart. Visually, it’s near impossible to tell the two shaderpacks apart, unless you look at the way light is reflected and bounced off of some blocks.
When looking at features such as water, there is no difference. With KappaPT Shaders 1.19.2 you will get almost exactly the same results as the original, and older non path-traced version. The only real difference is path-tracing, and this does have a big effect on how your game will look and feel when going from a dark forest, into a bright, open flower field.
To those shader enthusiasts that are a huge fan of the look of the original Kappa Shaders: if you’re looking for an upgrade, and want even more realism in Minecraft, this might just be the pack for you.
