SEUS Renewed shaders is one of the shaderpacks from the SEUS family of shaders. It’s a new version of the original SEUS shaders, which were last updated in 2016. The renewed shaders however are up-to-date with the latest Minecraft versions. Due to the release of new packs and edits over the years, there are currently at least a handful of shaders with SEUS in their name.

What do you get with SEUS Renewed?

This specific shaderpack offers outstanding high-end features to begin with. This includes high-resolution shadows, anti-aliasing, and realistic animations. Animations in this sense refer to the subtle waving of foliage and the realistic animation of water in Minecraft. Enabling this shaderpack will immediately add a load of realistic aspects to your world.

Apart from its realistic features, it also runs way better on mid-range machines. Especially when you compare it to its bigger brothers SEUS PTGI and SEUS PTGI HRR. These use unique features which make the shaders much more performance heavy.

Renewed vs. PTGI

And those are exactly the packs we’re going to compare next. Because most people that are interested in SEUS shaders want to know which is best. The answer to that is simple: whatever suits your needs. This shaderpack is a great high-end shaderpack with a similar look and feel to SEUS PTGI. They both offer stunning visuals, but they obviously have their differences too.

The first feature that’s missing with this shaderpack is clear: it doesn’t use path-tracing. Path-tracing is what the ‘PT’ in PTGI stands for, and this technique makes reflections and indirect lighting look more realistic. Clearly, all this extra work comes at a cost. That’s why Renewed will yield higher FPS than SEUS PTGI on a similar set-up.

Texture pack support

A feature PTGI doesn’t have (yet), is texture pack support. Both Renewed and SEUS PTGI HRR do support this, which means you can use texture packs that require POM & PBR support. With this feature, you can add extra details to textures, such as reflections, light emission and self-shadowing.

Renewed and PTGI HRR both do a good job at making textures stand out with POM and PBR. Reflections with SEUS PTGI HRR will be a little more realistic, since this toned-down version of PTGI uses the aforementioned path-tracing technique. Even so, SEUS Renewed is the winner when it comes to FPS with texture support enabled.
