SEUS PTGI HRR is a shaderpack for Minecraft 1.19.4 that renders shader effects at half resolution. It uses filtering, anti-aliasing and other techniques to scale the effects to full screen. Although it shares names with the heavier SEUS PTGI shaders shaderpack, it’s not a one-on-one copy of those shaders.
SEUS PTGI HRR 3
The SEUS PTGI packs use a technique called path tracing, which is similar to ray tracing, to provide excellent realistic lighting and reflections. They do so, not by simply reflecting what is rendered on screen, but by taking off-screen surrounding objects into account as well. Path tracing also allows objects outside the player’s direct view to be included when shading your worlds as realistically as possible.
As you may be able to understand, this takes a toll on your system. That’s where SEUS PTGI HRR comes in. It’s an optimized version of the full SEUS PTGI pack. While the HRR version looks and feels similar to the full SEUS PTGI pack, it’s got quite a few tricks up its sleeve.
Half Resolution Rendering
This is the main trick: rendering the shader effects at half the resolution. As sonicether wrote himself, the pack “aims to achieve higher frame rates by rendering the image at a lower internal resolution (half, per axis) and upscaling to full resolution”. So essentially, when you’re running Minecraft at 1080p, you’re rendering the game at 540p (half) resolution. The shaders will then upscale the rendered image and reconstruct full resolution frames.
As becomes clear from the comparison, the final image looks sharper with the full SEUS PTGI pack. We shouldn’t forget about the fact that Minecraft isn’t exactly a picture gallery; it’s a game. Because you’ll be walking and running around most of the time, you will not notice the difference in image sharpness as much.
Texture Pack support
Another feature that is included with SEUS PTGI HRR 3 is Texture Pack support. This feature is not in the full SEUS PTGI pack. This means that with the HRR version, you can enable texture packs that use POM and PBR to add depth and other effect to Minecraft textures. Examples of such texture packs are
Brixel or
Simplista, which turn Minecraft blocks in to realistic objects using POM and PBR effects.
